A MYSTIC SMILE, FROM ACROSS THE SEA

A mystic smile, from across the sea,
comes to me in a dream.

    Far beyond your reaching arms,
in the night, my memories appear,
    reaching out for thee.

    Happy are my dreams,
for your smiling faces are near.

    Smiles of friendliness and love,
    listen to a soothing word,
    dreaming,
    still am I
    far across the sea.

    How long shall it be.

My love I send to thee,
    from across the sea.

I know not the way before me,
    I patiently wait.

Yet, I must confess, confused am I
on which side of the sea to be.

    My loving one's awaiting me,
    sensations I sense,
a dream that never fades away,
happy thoughts to fill my awaken days.

Oceans apart, I return thee a warm loving smile,
forever lasting, until, once again we meet.

Who knows whenever, my favorite dream will be upon me,
to be across the sea, forever united with thee...

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.
