    A VERBAL REVOLUTION

Beloved, we are not strangers on this earth

We are united under one blood

    We are a proud people

    We are an ancient people

We go back fourteen centuries in time

We have deep roots in Lebanon

Will we not be forced out of our country by intruders

We will ensure that not one death shall be in vain

No compromise of the principle of sovereignty

For which our fallen comrades and families laid down their lives

    Our time is now

To be united under one voice to save our forefathers land and

Dreams of a free Lebanon, a sovereign Republic

    And of national unity

Beloved, Son's, Daughters, and Friends of Lebanon

We must mount our verbal chariots

We must wield our swords of fine words

We must strike the hearts of our oppressors

From the land of our forefathers, we must dispose

Driving them out, our oppressors into the sea and back to their homes

We must make a verbal statement by our actions

    And with a worldwide revolution

That which is written, is meant to be read with

Subtleties and mysteries of these letters

    To world leaders and friends

    Truth in action of composition

Truth which lies between the lines of verbiage

Are magically contained in your letters of

Verbal action, making our National and

World leaders busy with our cause

For your minds are young and free

Your verbiage and tongues are uncontrolled

Beloved, a Prayer is good in the hour of needs

To mount our verbal revolution of truth

    THE TIME IS NOW!

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
