alone

alone

Standing in the openness, I look to the sky

I see the wonder that God has given

Both for our survival and for our enjoyment

     I still feel all alone

I walk to the water and stare across it

I watch as the waves interact

With the sand

     I still feel all alone

I sit along the edge of a cavern

And look down at the expanse

I listen to my echo

And I feel so all alone

Then I climb the high mountain

    Set before me

It is a long and weary climb

And I know I didn’t do it alone

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
