Authentically Me

Poem Commentary

I wrote this poem after I turned 45 and realized that I didn't have to be anything anyone else wanted anymore. I didn't have to live my life waiting on my mother to accept me or society to embrace, love, tolerate and understand me for being different. I hope this helps others to know that they can also shake off the chains and be..... Tammy

Authentically Me

I am letting go of all the used to be me:

How big and bad, in-shape and desired. Used to be

How I was the party, brought the crowd, always had an arm piece. Used to be

Pity Potty because mommy didn’t accept and love me. Used to be

Woe is me never knew my daddy. Used to be

I release. I am authentically me.

I am not the deeds of 25.
I am not the deeds of
35.
I am the wisdom of 45

I am authentically me!

I am not your photograph. I am not your script.

I toss the stereotypes. I break the molds. I stand up, and step out of the box.

I am authentically me!

As I attempt to gather knowledge, about myself and my life, I too am seeking my "authentic self". Thanks for the inspiration...

you are most welcome.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
