autumn is here

autumn is here and it feels more like winter. gusts of cold wind blow right through the trees. tearing the leaves off their branches and scattering them all across car windowshields. blanketing the ground, only until the wind knocks them back up onto the air so that the same violent cycle begins once again.

i am a bird that has stayed behind flying south for the winter. my wings are wounded, but i cannot feel the pain anymore because they're numb from the chill this season has brought upon us all. all i can do is sit, wait, ruffle my feathers to keep the cold from penetrating my being. hoping for a bit of sunlight to shine down from up above to bring me back to warmth. i will wait. i will hope. and in time my wings will heal so that i may take up flight once again...or even for the first time. flying is my reason for living.

something can only become real if it is valued, understood and appreciated. otherwise it is as if it never was, and we need to experience the things that are so that we may learn and grow from them.

i enjoy poems like this very much, near stories but poetic at is heart. this almost seems like 2 poems although the autumn theme underlies the bird stanza. another suggestion i might offer for consideration. i wonder how it would work if you eliminated the some of the buts, ands, only, which would shorten and perhaps sharpen sentences. also in the second stanza first, 'flying south' doesn't seem to me to make sense as the bird staying behind. just some quiet suggestions. still a provocative piece of writing. look forward to reading more.

"i will wait. i will hope" --- this is the story of life, here, in this short, gem-like line. This is a powerful prose you have penned.

It looks like the poem's form didn't come in when you posted the poem. There is no versification. It think that might make a big difference within the presentation of the form. a poet friend// RH Peat
