    BIRTHDAY ADVICE

Blissful it seems the other day,
Been flushed into this solo life consumer
    through gush of blood.
Instantly it piercing and sucking air
inserted it prombosis into your arteries.
    Whee! Whee! Whee! You cried,
    In protest.

But the placating smile and hand-pampering
of the nurse assured you safety.
    Later confirmed by the blushing
    Coming and going visitors.
    How greatly important you felt,
And seal your heart to live.

    Happy birthday you are ten,
    Happy birthday you are twelve...
    Gradually, time worn out.
Suddenly, you are being address "mama"

Then, you realise you are decaying fast,
    Like an enormous Uranium element.
But it only seems like yesterday.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
