    CANCER

THE FIRST TIME I HEARD THIS WORD
    I WAS IN DISBELIEF
WHAT IS IT THAT I HAVE DONE
    TO DESERVE SO MUCH GRIEF
    THIS LITTLE SIX LETTER WORD
CAN DO SO MUCH TO YOU
IT MAKES YOU FEEL SO YUCKY
    SO TIRED AND SO BLUE
    CANCER IS MY ENEMY
I KNOW THAT FOR A FACT
HOW DO I GET RID OF IT
AND HAVE MY WHOLE LIFE BACK
    CANCER IT DESTROYS SO MUCH
    IT TAKES AWAY YOUR WILL
IT TAKES AWAY THE HAPPY TIMES
IT MAKES YOU FEEL QUITE ILL
    CANCER I DO HATE YOU
SO MUCH MORE THAN YOU WILL KNOW
WHY DO YOU WANT ME TO SUFFER
AND NOT LET ME SEE MY CHILDREN GROW
    WHY DO YOU DESTROY
    SO MANY PEOPLE'S LIVES
YOU DO NOT CARE FOR ANYONE
NOT EVEN THE CHILDREN YOU MAKE CRY
    CANCER
I KNOW YOU AREN'T PREJUDICE TO ANY
BUT THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO'D BE HAPPY
IF MY LIFE YOU COULD JUST SPARE ME

It is a mean adversary. I know some of it's venomous effects. My husband has a form of leukemia and I've experienced it from that perspective. But with chemo he has been remission. So there is hope.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
