    Children of the Night

    They hungered for freedom
    in their quest for peace
    They thirst for honor
    so far from reach
    Bound together in slavery
    by link and chain
Bought and sold on open market
    like cattle and grain
    Stripped of every human dignity
    and deprived of all birthright
    So helpless were the voices
of the Children of the Night
In spite of their pain and sorrow
their unbroken spirits rose in height
    Living in humility and squalor
were the Children of the Night
Tho their footsteps have now softened
    their struggle with us remain
Let us not forget their suffering
that they may not have died in vain

Poetry is not the expression of personality but an escape from personality.
