    Poem Commentary

This poem is dedicated to Ibrahim Lawal whom i met in the NYSC Orientation Camp in Kaduna, Nigeria, in the month July 2009. I loved him for the sake of friendship but seems to care less about me thus i am waried and dissappointed but still love him.

    Complaning but Longing

Maybe i knew it was coming but never really anticipated,
before now it has been a thing of worry,
a thing of restlessness and wishing,
but the calabash is too feeble to handle it.

Yet i encountered and communioned with him.
At first, he clapped his hands but never danced,
he kept me at bay, yet i was angrilly happy.
He refused to reciprocate good will.

He promises but he is hard hearted lika a wolf.
    I have sacrificed coloured papers,
i have over worked the cells to buy flair,
yet, tomorrow is still dark and far away.

Now, it is down to earth
like there is no smile to share.
I want, wish and wonder but never got the desired.
Will somebody bring him to milk the cow?

Let the inferno come and burn it all away,
too heavy is the chain for the calabash.
But if thou be thrilled, then share smiles
and let tears be dried to bring happiness

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.
