    Death Approaches

At birth our light is brilliant like the Sun above
Through each stage of life it changes.

As we near the end of our life on this earth
I wonder how bright we are.
Life and years have taken their tolls,
    Yet we still shine

I watched as your once brilliant light dimmed
Your silence grew deafening and your limbs no longer responded
Eyes once full of life and knowledge grew quiet
As silence fell upon my ears, I wonder

    What were you thinking?
I knew you were still inside
Did you think of your love with your husband?
A lifetime of love and honor, happy times and sad.
    Trips you had gone on?
Children you had watched learn and grow?

Did you remember those babies you had held?
Those days of struggle through challenging times
Maybe all your thoughts were of the love of your life.

For in those days of fading light, Dad was there holding your hand.
Missing your voice, longing for your touch and feeling your pain.
Beside you at the beginning and beside you at the end.
    Never did that love wavier.

He alone knew (save God) when you left.
    With you his heart went….

Sad it is. And sadder yet than it first appears. Worth a second read and excellent

Thank you very much for your comments and a nice rating. Have a great day!

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

    Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
