    Dim Glimmer

    I'm too young to feel this old...
    my clouded vision choked by the smoke of my dead dreams breeding,
    straining to see a new sun has risen, and still; I stand cold...
    trying to focus blind eyes through stinging tears,
    broken heart bleeding on a torn sleeve,
    alone all of these years.
    Bone dry and solemn...on I travel,
    trying to gather together hope that has unwraveled,
    while storm clouds echo the decree of yet another trial,
    drops begin to fall...still...in defiance, I can only smile.
    A shallow effort...a dim glimmer of strength...
    dropping the shards held-fast in my grasp...I gasp;
    "it's cold...I'm too young to feel this old."

    Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.
