Don't Quit

Ah, rip, tear, just a little more,

Ah, there goes by bloody heart

You see it fell right there on the floor

Go ahead I know you want to step on, pounce on it, bounce on it,

You want to chew it up and spit it out

Kick it around, kick it about

Come now sweetheart,

You got to finish what you start

What? You look offended?

You are?

Well dear don’t stress YOUR heart,

Don’t be surprised I'm telling you to do what you’ve already did

Right now you looking like that saying with the cookie jar and the kid

You mean to tell me you don’t know the pain you caused?

Hold up, wait, pause

You mean to tell me you don’t know about the late night crying?

The trying, sighing, faulty love testifying that we did?

You don’t know that the emotions we texted about weren’t true?

You telling me you didn’t have a clue?

You didn’t know our love wasn’t true?

Oh, let me rephrase that,

Come on sit down, we about to have a little chat

You don’t know I know you didn’t know me?

You think that I wouldn’t see?

The pulling and shoving away you did?

There’s only so much I can allow you to get away with permit

I'm not dumb, I catch on quick

That’s why I had to plow and pick

And make you see and admit

That hiding these feelings wasn’t safe or healthy

Come now, sit down tell me

When did realize we were made to be best friends forever

Not to be soul mates and always together

That our beginning started our ended

We both went on false hope,

I hoped that you were the one and would always love me

You on some other stuff, saying no one comes above me

But you want to know what got me the most?

Is that I felt that perfect love was so close

And that you said I love you first

I didn’t demand of it or ask it from you

So when you said it I just knew

It was real, it wasn’t fake

My favorite part is when you said basically, my bad, oh, my mistake

I love you as my best friend and nothing else

How did you think I felt?

So go head there’s my heart,

Remember you gotta finish what you start…

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
