    Dreams

I know what I’m about to say
    Has all been said before,
About the days of my own youth,
    Days I’ll see no more.

I think of those times so long ago,
When life was so care free,
When problems so big were really small,
And think was that really me?

I dreamed the dreams, so grand they were
    That most young minds see,
Some came true but most did not,
Did I wish what could not be?

I have wanted to live them over again,
Go back to that simpler age,
They say that wisdom comes with time,
You can’t turn back the page.

Now here I am hopefully much wiser
At least with many more years,
The problems are real and so are the joys,
So really there can be few tears.

Life is real with it’s ups and downs
I’ll do what I must do,
I have young ones of my own you see,
I want their dreams to come true.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

    Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
