Poem Commentary

I wrote this poem for Freddie Mercury....i tried to set it from his point of view....

Flightless Bird.

I feel my strength ebb away
knowing that soon all will end
i am well aware that night is closing in
so now my sightless eyes look for a friend

Pray to God, with this pain i will cope
agony grips when i smile at your kind word
for the cold creeps in beneath my skin
as here i lay prisoner...a Flightless Bird

I remember i used to walk..how i used to run
but fatigue now clouds my brow
i cry when thinking of those days now passed
i know to lifes closing curtains i must soon bow

Pain pervents me from holding you any longer
so you play me music..softly by my side
i sing you songs only you could understand
they come from deep within a heart that is open wide

When i'm gone, i beg you never cry
please don't treat my passing with regret
knowing that you could do so upsets me
i'll be free of this pain, i'll be happy..so never fret...

I really like how you set a dark and sad mood throughout the poem only to be lightened by the last line. Great write!

Poetry is what is lost in translation.
