    For Toil

    Toil, man

    For it is your fate.

Never give in to slothful dictates,

For a sweat on your brow

    Is needed

    To keep the cycles

    Intact, balanced, undisrupted.

    Now up you lazy arse

    And get ready

    To join the stampede.

    You're lagging behind

    And success tags

    Are at stake.

So, toil ‘til you can toil no more.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
