Gratitude or Attitude

Gratitude or Attitude?

Ben Franklin called it "Gratitude" an older woman expresses

when he wrote his lofty platitude explaining his successes.

Alone with her solicitude she stops to wonder why

she should endure the solitude and let life pass her by.

Although she is no pulchritude, older woman will agree,

yet she scores high on aptitude, she's quite adept, you see.

Armed with a kind of  fortitude  her shield of honor wearing,

already she's had servitude, now she wants love and sharing.

With boldness, she gains latitude and now she's out there dating,

for she has changed her attitude 'bout sitting home and waiting.

So Ben, from whom those words exude, quite frankly you were wrong.

what you mistook for gratitude just helped her cause along.

I like the great choice of words and the rhythm that moves this poem along. Reminiscent of the Gilbert and Sullivan operas, it resonates with humor, which I believe too often is missing from today's poetry. This poem earns my vote for sure!
