    Haven't Much Time

    HAVEN’T MUCH TIME

Must I always seek and search to discover the core of darkness that blights my soul

Happiness, forever elusive, swirling in the periphery of my vision.

Seen as a shadow, perceived as brightness, but beyond my reach

    Look….look, for I haven’t much time

I cry out, silent screams echoing through the canyons of despair I’ve created.

Screams, unheard by the one that need to hear the most.

Locked in the recesses of my being, words fall on ears, deaf to the sounds of my sorrow

    Listen…listen for I haven’t much time.

Days sweep by in endless succession. The sun rises, the sun sets.

The moon’s brightness a mockery of the darkness of my soul

Reach out to me, that which I need. Caress me, free me of this emptiness

Touch me….touch me for I haven’t much time

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
