    His Mercies

    My eyes, still in shock from the night of slumber,
    open to greet the day ahead.

    Through the fog and grog of waking joints;
    I see the truth that is...

    Just as with the coming of a new day,
    so is the coming fo God's renewed mercies.

    As the darkness fades into light, and death into life,
    so we greet the day. Melted into His new mercies.

    I see His mercy shining as the Sun
    and I am beaconed to bask in the light of it all.

    Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
