How Come You Do What You Do?

How come you do what you do, never do what you say?
How can you look in my eyes with the games that you play?
How can you do me so wrong in my darkest of days?
How come? How can? How can?

How could you blame me for all my old ways?
How would you feel if you were lost in this maze?
How would you know that I was no longer astray?
How could? How would? How would?

How come you act like you're so so surprised?
I did all that I did right there in front of your eyes
Is it the truth or just your version of lies?
    How come? How can? How?

How can I escape your wrath of pain?
The blood on your hands is sure to leave a bad stain
    Affections forever feeling pure disdain
A love that your heart could not refrain
Scourned as the woman who has loved in vain
How can your love and hate be one in the same?

You left me alone - In the dark on my own
No place to call home - No one to hear me moan
I cry - I die, slow as I suffer and struggle in vain
Wondering if this is meant - Are you enjoying my pain?

How come you do what you do, never do what you say?
    How come?

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
