    Hunger pangs

    I see you every day,
    And my hope sores,
    Then crashes,
    Flaming with pain and desire.

You look me in the eye,
    but you see nothing,
    nothing of my pain,
    my love.
Do you see me at all?

    Sometimes i wonder,
how would it feel to lie with you?
I don't know what to do.
    I can't deprive myself forever.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
