I Grew Up From The Likes of You

You gave me much love in the early spring
I remembered the time you dressed up in your kind with the straw hat,
white gloves and a hoe you'd used to perfectly line........
    a special place for me

You'd choose the ripest fruit that clinged to the pit or seed
Knowing that your off spring may not have the same characteristics, but
God willing soon your results would be pleased

You fertilized me with vitamins and nutrients that helped my roots
spread and grow. Protected me with woodchips and straw to help me
stand straight and tall for others to know.........

How sweet I would be, How sweet of a plum we'd eat.
Sometimes red and sweet sometimes green and sour
But she loves me so cause during winter I'd turn into these
    beautiful tree of flowers

Vulnerable to the spring frost, but with love and patients I'll pay
the cost. Each season I will always show you something
new and I only could to this from the likes of you.......

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
