I Look At All The Poems You Write

I look at all the poems you write
    I wish I could compete
I see them coming on and on
    You never miss a beat
And when I read them word for word
And find them such a treat

I look at all the poems you write
And look on you in awe
I try to keep a the actual count
    But cannot keep a score
Since every time I look away
There's more and more and more

I look at all the poems you write
I wonder how you do it
You write of things you've seen and done
    But also you intuit
And when I look at what you say
I wonder whence you knew it

I look at all the poems you write
    And marvel at the scope
Of new and old and good and bad
Of love and life and hope
I look at all the poems you write
    And wonder how you cope

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
