    If I Could Only Cry

That’s the way he raised me, the way his dad raised him
A man could never show his weakness, crying was a sin
So I never shed one single tear the day my father died
But I still remember thinking as I kept it all inside
If I could only cry, let the tears fall down
Like raindrops from a storm, they’d put this fire out
If I could only cry, if only I knew how
To let my feelings show, I’d be crying now
She opened up her heart and let me look inside
Still I could never share with her what I was taught to hide
She’s the only reason I’d ever need to change
But I just stand here frozen as I watch her walk away
    It’s a ghost I can’t escape, a chain I just can’t break
    It’s what I couldn’t do for a love I could’ve saved
    If I could only cry…..

This is very well written capturing the inner anguish and the struggle to overcome a great obstacle. Being a person who was taught feeling were bad and learning to internalize everything, I can really feel the pain behind the words. Great Job!

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
