    If Only I Had Seen

If only I had seen the pain when I caused her heart to break

If only I had realized the love that was at stake

If only my prerogative were not so on the mark

If only I’d not dampen the happiness she’d spark

Oh infinite of feelings that have soared throughout man kind

I’ve failed at this love, this gift, this failing that is mine

One day this love will resurrect to be a sign to me

That the most regrettable mistake in my life

Is not keeping her for me

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

    Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
