    If Only

As the rain falls and the thunder rumbles, my mind tumbles through rusty gates.
I’m standing in a puddle, rain splashing my face.
I miss the dry moments, the warmth of your embrace.
I feel the chill creeping in; sinking in my bones; honing in on my heart making itself at home.
A cold heart is sure to take hold, to mold my existence and keep me at a distance.
If only I could find that spark that once danced in your eyes; that made me laugh until I cried.
If only I could break the spell and be free of your memory.
Maybe then salvation would be grace me and break the ice that freezes me.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

    T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
