    One Step Closer To Tame

Anger rushes over me in a hot, hot heat.
    Burning me up inside out.
    Boiling to the brim.
    Teetering on the brink.
    Bringing me to the edge.
What stops me from falling over it?
What sooths the crimson tide of boiling blood?
How do I maintain a sense of calm… of peace…serenity?
    A chill pill might work.
Been told to take one a time or two.
But better for me is my dad’s memory.
Never a calmer exterior have I seen?
He exudes all that I seek.
Wisdom has a way of settling the soul,
Of cooling you down and making you think.
That is how I get past the fury that fights to consume me.
How I let go and stay sane.
I’ll never be as zen as I’d like to be.
Nor as wise as I should be.
But I’ll focus and think and drown the flame.
And be one step closer to tame.

I think the 'coolness' doesn't work for this poem.

Poetry comes nearer to vital truth than history.
