It's Not About Me

It's Not About Me

Its Not About Me

Ever since I was little
I heard people say
Its not about you kid
So be on your way

So I began to wonder
Whats going on here
Was it about the Pope
Or Santa's tiny reindeer?

As time passed
I grew older in size
The world I knew shattered
I thought I would die

It's not about you
I heard preachers say
Well why not me
When is my day?

There surely must be
An answer I said
Was it about the man
Whose blood we did shed?

So I looked in the sky
And I felt the rain
I'd heard of the cross
Then I spoke His name

Finally I know
That my word are true
It's about the Savior
To me and to you

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
