    Letter For My Children

    Taking deep breaths, calming myself,
Putting all of my feelings on a shelf.
Not allowed to be honest, not wanting to lie.
What can I do?  I just want things to be right.

I love you!  I live for you!  You
Are the reason I wake up and do what I do.
The nights are so long, I don't sleep.
Listening for your voice, your breathing, one little peep.

The sound of your name sends a thrill to my soul.
One hug from you makes me whole.
I want so much for you, your happiness is my dream,
That's what I'm working towards.  I'm not as bad as I seem.

To see you smile, I would give my life.
To make you happy, suffer through any strife.
If that's what it takes, if that's what you need,
Daddy will give it to you, with a song in his heart, indeed.

As you grow up, in all that you do,
I wish you love, success, and happiness, too.
Know that I love you and know that I tried.
Know that I pray for you and I'm always by your side.

I love you with all of my heart and soul.  I want you all to know that I tried as hard as I could to keep us together.  I don't know what else to do, except tell you that I always here for you and that as my fortunes change, yours will, too.  The more I have, the more I have to give to you.
I wish things were different, that things had gone better.  You are always in my Heart, on my Mind, in my Thoughts and Prayers.

All of My Love Forever and Always,

                                                                           Daddy

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
