Life Only Lasts a Minute

Life Only Lasts a Minute

When the night goes to bed and the sun starts his yawn, it is a magical thing.

I don’t mean to sound poetic, nor sap-ish. though the sad part is, it only lasts a minute.

When daylight’s eyes are wide open and the sleep is wiped away, the thrill is gone.

Don’t see me weird. All days dawning are perfect in themselves.

It’s the buzz in me, that cowers.

I wait in the night, so I can watch the living live and never have to live myself.

Those few minutes in the changing of the guard, give me a new breath.

For just that moment, a natural beauty includes me then I am just as perfect.

The poignant cuff comes in knowing, it’s the only thing I hold that’s real.

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
