Lift My Eyes

Lift My Eyes

Quiet hours before the dawn
Distant echos from the past
Whisper and moan through the trees
Carried on the morning breeze
Feel the hour getting late
Sense the distant setting sun
Twilight hangs on memories
Vanquished dreams that haunt the soul

Lord lift my eyes that I might see
Many blessings all around me
Free my spirit from this gloom
Wash this darkness from my soul

Time refuses to stand still
Parade of visions in the dust
Scattered pieces of broken hearts
Just tarnished rusted love
Bitter seeds thrown to the winds
Sown among the shifting sands
Watered by the tears that stream
Tears for loves vanquished dreams

Lord lift my eyes that I might see
Countless blessings all around me
Free my spirit from this gloom
Wash this bitterness from my soul

Struggle through these shifting sands
Heavy chains of vanquished dreams
Haunting echos of the past
Moan and groan in the howling wind
Cutting their way through this skin
Burning a hole in this grieving soul
Let me feel the burning wind
Let me know that I'm alive

Lord lift my eyes that I might see
Simple blessings all around me
Free my spirit from these chains
Lift this burden from my soul

In the quiet time of your day
When you lift your heart to pray
Place my name upon your list
A simple prayer sent my way
Lost along this winding path
Searching for my way
A simple prayer sent my way
A prayer to help me through the day
