    Lift Off

    On my way
    to the wedding.
    Waiting to lift off.
    Flying across the country
    is as ordinary
as walking to the corner store.

    I smell fuel.

    The captain comes on
    to announce
    a delay.

    He’ll let us know.
    I knew I smelled fuel.
I really should get my affairs in order.

    We take off
    Not too terribly late.
    The flight
    Uneventful.
    Already I have forgotten
    My affairs.
