    Look At Me

    12-30-08

    Look at me
Placed on this pedestal since I was a child
I shrink from energy to meek and mild
From wild to timid to hungry I filed
A complaint toward the world in poetic style

    Look at me
Everyone seems to know me, the kid they seen
At the Canteen on an arcade machine
Afro with a purple pick in it, it seems
He’s a star, number 1 in his karate team

    Look at me
As I build up my life from an empty field
I’m fighting dragons with a sword and a shield
My words, mind, and Bible, the weapons I wield
All in an effort to see my world healed

    Look at me
But past me, ‘cause the life I’m living
Destroys limitations set from the beginning
The lies, first impressions, and stereotyping
Look at me as I fight through this page that I’m writing.

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

    Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
