Loss

This is my free verse peom, It still needs a lot of work , but this is what i have so far:

Death just like new life is happening every minute of the day,

Bringing to the world feelings of both joy and pain.

The thought of never seeing someone again can leave you feeling weak,

Wishing they were beside you leaves you unable to speak.

The tears start rolling down your face, with the thought too much to bear,

You long for just a whisper of their voice and them being there,

Your selfishness kicks in as you realise, it hurts too much to care. Pleading they be brought back to you, how you just don’t care.

You would rather another life taken in place of theirs, to just spend another hour telling them how much you really care.

Saying goodbye you realise is the only way, which is when you decide today will be the day, at first it seems impossible with tears pouring down your face.

Although in the end you say your goodbyes and slowly walk away.

You were able to capture the feelings people go through when experiencing loss, without cheesy rhymes. You are very descriptive and I enjoyed reading this poem. I myself have not experienced loss of anyone close, so reading this, I can say I felt the sorrow of loss. Thank you.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
