Lucky Little Boy

Lucky Little Boy

What a lucky little boy he is
To have such a dedicated Dad
Watching them together filled my heart
Listening to them talking, teasing and laughing
I lost count of how many times
an arm instinctively wrapped around his shoulders
to give him a squeeze and a kiss
And then the gentlest, most heartfelt "I love you" I've ever heard
Such a lucky little boy

What a lucky little boy he is
To have his Dad sitting and watching him play
Coaching and encouraging him to do his best
I couldn't take my eyes off the pair
Playing catch before the game
Gloves on, ball in the air
Both doing what they love, with the one they love
Carbon copies of each other
Such a lucky little boy

What a lucky little boy he is
To have a Dad that is completely comitted
Cub Scouts, fishing, golf, whatever he needs
Truly appreciating every minute they have together
You can feel the love in each picture on the wall
Schoolwork proudly displayed on the fridge.
Such a lucky little boy

What a lucky little boy he is
To just go about his day
To be able to take all that love for granted
Not thinking it could be any different
It wouldn't be any other way with this man
Nothing could keep him from his son
Such a lucky little boy

What a lucky litle boy he is
His Father always on his side
Teaching him right from wrong in a firm but loving way
Setting the example of how to work hard and put your child first
You can already see he'll be just like his Dad
And one day all that his Father has taught him
May be shared with a son of his own
Such a lucky little boy

Nice story. It left me wondering where you were going with it and what you were trying to say other than sentiment. It had good flow. rhythm and meter was a little off but you are off to a good start. I read a lot of poetry and used to practice my writing by sitting down one hour per day and just writing about what ever came to mind. Then I started with practicing by making lists of one liners to inspire or provoke thought and once a week would take those lines and write non stop for the first 30 min. and then next 30 min. refine what I wrote. The following hour would be used to do some serious writing or just reading poetry to learn style, rhythm and meter.

Thanks for the feedback and thanks for sharing your approach. I appreciate it. My problem is I can't write about anything that I'm not a complete emotional ball of feelings about.

A great write, totally reminded me of what I missed as a youngster, also of what I wasn't around to give my own. Isn't life amazing, I'm sure I'm not alone in the world that your words can touch.

Poetry is not the expression of personality but an escape from personality.
