    • watching the rain pass me by as I'm frozen in time

    Momma

    She tried to hide
    Her tear stained eyes
    No reason to stop me
    From a better life

    She waved goodbye
    Fading into the dust
An image burned in my mind
    For years to come

    I've lost my way
    Too many times
    But I always found her
    With her arms opened wide

    The strength you've shown
    The work you've done
    I can tell you
    It's not for nothing
    I've resented you
    For stupid things
    But I still love you
    I'm no longer ashamed

I've regreted a lot of things
    Some I could never say
    But what amazes me
Is how I don't need to say a thing

She's still the one I call
    When nothing is going right
She gives me the push I need
    To finish the fight

    I miss her so much
She's such a big part of my life
How could I leave her alone
When she made me her life

    The strength you showed
    The hard work you've done
    I can tell you
    It's not for nothing
    I need you
    For so many reasons
    I'll always love you
    Momma please don't go away

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
