    Monsters are Real

Her name was Angel she was six years old
Pulled up the covers because she was cold
Though she tried hard not to fall asleep
But it was just too quiet not even a peep
Her little sister asleep on the other bed
Had all her covers pulled up to her head
As she lay warm and pulled in her feet
The only sound was her own heart beat
She held on to teddy and promised to keep
Him close to her side as they fell asleep
She awoke from sleep felt something wrong
Heard sounds of laughing, singing of songs
Her eyes couldn’t focus to darkness of night
Then realized she awoke to a terrible fright
Beside her bed a man kneeling on his knees
She just wanted to cry "Stop Please."
She couldn’t scream or even move a finger
To stop this man who just seemed to linger
Couldn’t breath and couldn’t open her eyes
She felt very sick as she soon realized
A party going on in the room next door
Drinking, dancing and a whole lot more
Couldn’t understand why no one knew
What this monster is going to do
    Touching, fondling, breathing out loud
Felt as though she was in a fear shroud
So hard she tried to squeeze her eyes shut
She felt like a rag doll or a little mutt
Her tears she held back for fear or shame
This night on, her life won't be the same
Standing it no longer she moved her head
That was all it took he got up from her bed
She couldn’t see him it was so very dark
He cleared his voice, sounded like a bark
She heard many of the little children say
They saw monsters, now Angel did this day
As he left the bedroom to never again return
Angel got out of bed she wanted to learn
Who this man was and why her room
She moved quietly to slowly resume
To follow this monster where he would go
There were too many people so Angel will never know.

Nicely written, tragically true. I wish it could be published all over the country ,especially educational institutes, churches, PTA's everywhere that would remind people to keep a close eye on our children throughout the world.

Ah, the thing people dont like to read.Alot of poets like to write dark poetry, but human evil is definatly more scarring than pretend darkness. This story is such areality to so many, you penned it perfectly.

Poetry is not the expression of personality but an escape from personality.

    T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
