mother

i remember your anger
when i made you mad
i thought you would kill me
when i did anything bad
i remember your smile
when i made you proud
i was always your everything
you saw me through the crowd
how did you know how to be
how to turn this little boy into me
i remember everything you told me
you were right all along
you knew what i shouldn't do
you guided me away from wrong
who taught you how to love me
i remember your devotion
there was never a doubt
you knew exactly what i was about
i felt so great all because of you
i remember everything you did for me
i'll never forget how incredible you told me i'd be
i know now that nothing can stand in my way
i can reach any goal one by one
i think i was meant to be your son
i think you were created to raise me right
i look back now and see your brilliant light
the older i get the more i understand
i live my life thanks to the guidance of your hand
i remember when i was small
how you held me and fixed it all
when you showed me when why and how
it's my turn to take care of you now
i'm here for you and forever i'll be
you're my mother and mean everything to me

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.
