    My belly

loneliness did not give birth to a tree throughout my bellybutton
out of the belly did not grow a tree
    not even a leaf
    a blossom
    or a bud or
    something, anything
my belly rests unopen like a door without key

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
