    My Breath

Again, here I am in this dark place The air is thick with blackness and filled with our pain that I fail to misplace I reach for life as I scramble for the door But neither are found I’m the only one here left kneeling on this cold dark floor I know this room The scent the sound If only I could find the exit then maybe light would be found My instincts tell me that your presence is in the room still searching for a solid structure I feel the wall brush my back I'm in the corner I reach out and say your name because I know that my pleas for you to save us are echoing in the air Then finally my love I feel your breath on my face Still not seeing I feel your warm embrace Instantly I am safe My head filled with so many words that I feel I need to say Then you silence me with the brush of your finger on my lips You press your forehead to mine 'as you whisper' we are only becoming stronger I feel the warmth of one tear as it falls from your lash to my cheek Now I ask myself how could I have ever felt alone Your tears remind us that our souls are one You are here to cry for me no matter how dark are empty the room may be When I’m pushed in the corner You are the warmth that saves me The tear that catches me The voice that leads me The life within me My breath

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
