    My Life

My mother was twenty when she had me
But shortly after, she lost me.
She came home one day and I was gone
My mother thought she did wrong.
My father came back to marry her
And she told him to stay clear.
He was confused, lost and sad
And that made my mother glad.
She thought she lost me all those years
And finally found me through her tears.
When she found me she was glad
But things had changed which made her mad.
I had my own life and she had hers
And that brought back all the tears.
I told my mother to let me be
And she can go back to her family.
That was the final word from me
And now she is back with her family.
I still regret those words I say
And even to this very day.

    I like this one.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
