Never Enough

Never Enough

I said I would never be enough
You said that I always would be
Our wedding, honeymoon
We began a life together
Sharing my children and your desire to have a family
You fought to keep from being tamed
I fought to find my lover and friend
Knowing that it was new
Hoping that it would grow in time

Our first home and child
A moment in time of sheer bliss
Then it was not enough
You left and came back
We began again
The fights, the longing
The struggle to keep us a family

 Our Second home and child
God cursed you without a son
The internet and the greener grass
Women that appreciated you more than I
You left and explored a lost opportunity
With a woman from your past
We began again
I kept your family, you kept your distance
Death of your father, their father

Our third home
We began a new life in a new place
Moments of bliss
Death of my father
We rallied for a time
Could life be ready to greet us at last?

Our fourth home
Death of my mother
Back to work
Debt, struggle, your spirit was restless again
New job, on top of the world
Confident, surly, I was never enough
Then our hate of the lady of the Lakeland
Love at last, Dandelion Gifts, a theorem,
Shiny eyes, Indian Summer
Shame, guilt, longing, begging,
Depths of pain I did not know existed

I saw the pain and the guilt of her in your eyes
Resentment, pain, bitterness, pain
Guilt, pain, heartache, pain
Waiting for the words that never came
Forever, only you, love of my life
Your love was offered with if you…
Stipulations, manipulations, waiting, pleading

How do we begin again?
You spoke of death, clearly, I was not enough
Our life seemed never enough to make you happy

Opportunity to see her again
You felt alive, giddy, ready eager for what you had lost
I waited afar, knowing what was at stake
She shunned you, pain, and sadness, hurt

Now you are ready for us to begin again
Second best is not enough
Will you ever be enough for me?
Will we ever be enough for each other?

these words i just read are very forthright about life and love---you did very good with your emotional phrases----good word description and very good write-----i think your work comes from your heart shelly

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
