    No Light In The Darkness

    The Black Man’s Cry

Like packages from Africa we were packed and shipped
Slaved on plantations, our pride was stripped
Whom have set the rules, of the colour of one’s skin
When the real person can be found within
The reality of the past, black inferior to white
In the midst of the dark, there is still no light

Being black in such a prejudice world
It seems hopeless for a black boy or girl
It is rather weird, the way things are
The way our past has survived this far
Even now, our own black people
Contribute to prejudice, and racial evil

Our own black people prejudice against each other
Because you’re light skinned, you fight your black brother
The black women seeking jobs, her complexion would fight her
She ‘bleaches’ her skin, just to look a bit lighter
No light in the darkness, no questions why
These are the words of a Black Man’s Cry

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
