On Broken Knees

On Broken Knees

My friend, hello I recognize

The hopelessness you’ve dealt

Upon my soul for years and years

On broken knees I’ve knelt

So lonely in this dank abyss

No light with which to see

Nor air to breathe and fill my lungs

Constrict to smother me

And hold my eyes fused shut again

My tears to flood the dam

Of heart held back as bones dissolve

Restricting all I am

To love is lost at last long gone

Though likely I'll live on

Within the grays of lifeless prayers

Ragged robes left to don

And wonder just what purpose makes

When sadness reigns supreme

To steal away what makes me me

Then locks away my dream

To sleep or die perchance no dreams

Will herald peacefulness

For when I wake the nightmares live

To steal my hopefulness.

You have a gift for phrase. You might think about apoting your Skills to a band for lyrics!

I love the deep melancholic atmosphere that lingers with a side of poignancy with this one: "To love is lost at last long gone Though likely I'll live on Within the grays of lifeless prayers" –– Bravo! –-))

Thank you my friend!

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
