ONCE IN A WHILE

ONCE IN A WHILE

Does love come to everyone - in simple form and pleasure -
That lasts till the day we die?
Or is it for only - the ones who are lucky?
If so - then I want to ask... why?

Can?t we all have a chance - to be lucky, just once -
In the glow of the one who we love?
Who loves us forever - with sweetness so tender -
Our dreams on the wings of the dove.

But once in a while, when the rains gently fall -
When the dew melts away frozen snow.
Deep there in slumber are secrets and wonder -
The promise of love yet to know.

Once in a while do the stars shine upon us -
And dreamers dare not fear.
For once in a while we?re all lovers and poets -
Our heart sings of one who is dear.

Can love come to everyone - the winner and the loser -
Can dreamers? dreams come true?
Do failures and sadness reduce our chances -
And give them to the lucky few?

What does it take - to have a chance -
And rise above it all?
To feel the thrill in the arms of the one -
Who holds us when we fall.

Once in a while we can shout from the mountain top -
- Over the valley of pain -
Not echoes of sadness from heart torn asunder -
But promise of love to remain.

Once in a while - the world?s at our fingertips -
- Our longing - reconciled -
We dare to believe that love comes with tomorrow -
If only - once in a while.

Does love come to everyone - in simple form and pleasure -
That lasts till the day that we die?
Or is it for only - the ones who are lucky?
If so - then I want to ask... why?

Can?t we all have a chance - to be lucky just once -
In the glow of the one who we love?
Who loves us forever -  with sweetness so tender -
Our dreams on the wings of the dove.

Once in a while - when our hopes are all dashed -
The promise... unfulfilled.
To hope that just once - in life we?re the winner -
Instead the heart is stilled.
But if we believe - then the dream will unfold -
And bring with it pleasures in style.
For love comes along - not always - not never,
But Truly - Once In A While.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
