Once Upon A Time: Cause Who Wouldn't Miss A Love Like That?

Once upon a time I fell in love
With a man so sweet and kind
That it stopped my world and damn near blew my mind
I took in all he had to give and then some more
Cause I yearned for the caresses and feelings
That only he could provide

Giving every part of myself that I knew how to give
He led me to new places in myself
As I trusted and safely felt
While I fell deeper and deeper
Into the depths of sweet, oh so tender lovemaking
Where two become one, joining in sweet symphony
Sharing sounds and feelings that only the two of us know
Together in every memory and moment of remembering
Creating a love that one could only ask
Who wouldn’t miss a love like that?

When I ran away in my stupidity
Lured by illusions of fortune and fame
Unaware of what true love is
How it works to create a future that sustains
My lover told me our babies, education, work, and good living would be more than enough
To be the glue we needed to hold our love and life together
But me?  Unconvinced, yes I was...
And I do admit…I really didn’t know a damn thing about true love

My ignorance and knowledge betrayed myself
Until…I understood how pain really felt…to lose that someone
Who could hold you so tight that even fear knows how to run in flight
Someone who when challenged will fight for your very life
There to hold you in the darkest of nights
Awaken with you in the wee hours of the morn
Listen, nurture, and heal you back to health
Knowing that The Spirit is the Source of all wealth

I missed this someone who knew my dreams
Praying with me
Because he also believed
That Our Creator had a plan from the start
And that together this path was one we both walked

I left this love behind with sorrow and guilt
Believing that to hold on would bring pain and tears
Instead of the love and happiness that I should have believed
And I experienced those lessons that come from pain
For leaving true love has its price
Especially a love so strong and so true
A person who stood by you when you went through your blues

A love that stood the test of space, time, and destiny
One that returned again to renew
A friendship that just is, no strings attached
Just caring thoughts and words and laughter too
Of memories shared, both old and new

Keeping in touch to be understood
That despite the heartache life is all, and always good
So as I recall my once upon a time
I realize with no regret
Because who wouldn’t miss a love like that?

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.

Aristotle (384 BC-322 BC) Greek philosopher.
