Phoenix Dreams

My Dreams lay about me
Broken, Shattered
Shards of once vivid scenes
I stand among them
Staring, Searching
Hoping to find even one
One piece large enough
To remind me again
Of all that I dreamed
For Oh, how I dreamed
But there is nothing
Devastation, Despair
Not a spark of life that once was
I look around me
Hopeless, Desperate
Finality comes like a Fire
Scorching, Incinerating,
Leaving nothing but ashes
That swirl, listless, at my feet
But wait! A glimmer
Of Light, and Another!
Watching, Awe-struck, Amazed!
Phoenix Dreams rise
From the Pyre of the Past
Winging, Ascending,
To the sun
I step forward to follow
Forgetting, Hoping,
Knowing I have been reborn!

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
