Phoenix Rising

Phoenix Rising

Once again I rose from the ashes of a previous life deceased

A tentative glance around me proved that nothing was the same

This is my new life, I thought to myself

I have been reborn.

I sat amidst the ashes of my past and contemplated change

A furrow appeared in the silty powder beneath my fingertips

Absentmindedly I drew patterns in the dust representing what this life may lead to

A zero with a slash...Nothing

But you can change this I said

The point of a second chance is to change what's been wronged

The muttering thoughts echoed in my newly formed mind

Saying that it was too late for change

You're wrong I said

Rise up from these ashes!

Lay your life on the line and prove the naysayers who saw you die wrong!

You've done this before, I reminded myself and you will succeed

I rose from the ashes of my past

In a burst of flame my previous life departed

Allowing myself to be reborn

Cleansed by fire I am

The Phoenix rising once more.
