Piano

There she sits
in damusk black and white
one strums the keys
and puts the silence to flight.

So soft this sound!
a pillow seems akin to lead
when compared to this gentleness
that fills my hands, heart, and head.

But yet so hard!
it thunders and roars
it is by turns angry and triumphant
as it takes flight and soars!

So simple a sound
just a hammer on a string
a child can play and does
this user-friendly thing.

and so lovely a sound
it goes beyond compare
as it sings through your soul
and dances in the air.

Your poem brought a silent piano to life! What a unique yet realistic description of the sounds created by the pianist..

Too true. Who knew such power came from a simple hammer to string. Hahaha. It is only testiment to the plain and simple fact that we are sensitive beings. Seemingly able to absorb much feeling from simple things. Its at times like those I feel life is great. Enjoyed the read.

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.

Aristotle (384 BC-322 BC) Greek philosopher.
