Biography

The “I Got to Pay my Child Support” book of poetry. Biography of Tyrone Sanders.

Some people might ask, “Who is Tyrone Sanders and what makes him so significant”? Well, I am sure that no one can tell you about the person in question better than the person himself. That is where I come in. My name is, Tyrone Sanders, age 37, Black American male that was born in New Albany, Mississippi. Growing up, I was not the most popular person in school, but I had a lot of friends that I hung out with. I, Tyrone Sanders, was born to J. B. and Jewelene Sanders. As a child, I stuck to either my grandmother, Louise Penson or my favorite aunt, Maxine Parks. If I was taken away from my grandmother when I was a little child, it seemed as if someone was ripping me in half. I always loved to be around my grandparents, but I was spoiled by my Mother’s Mom.
Growing up, I loved music and singing all types of songs. The songs that I listened to where mostly gospel songs, but I listened to R&B songs as well. Music always made me feel good and when I felt bad about anything, I always listened to music and wrote poetry. I attended church often and saw my mother and father singing in gospel groups. Singing and writing poetry was my way of expressing myself to the world as I got older.
When I turned 6 years old, my mother’s mom got sick with the plague of cancer. As the days went by, I watched my grandmother get sicker and sicker until she died. My beautiful rose, Louise Penson died and went home to be with the Lord. As a little child, I did not really understand what was going on, but I watched as everyone took my granny away from me. All of this happened in the fall of 1977. This happened in September of 1977, to be exact.
Two months later, in November of 1977, my grandfather died of a broken heart. He was in so much grief about my grandmother, that it made him not have the will to live. My grandfather’s name was Ollie Penson. My Grandfather was one of the world’s greatest men to ever walk the Earth. So, there we were gathered again, two months later, laying my grandfather to rest.

You would think that was very hard to take in, having two grandparents die close together, but if you go forward a few months, then you should be able to start to heal over the deaths and overcome the grief, but the sorrow got even worse from there. My Dad’s father had been sick for a while with cancer, but was fighting it fairly well. My Daddy’s Dad name was Jim Sanders and he stood about 6’7” towering over everyone. January of 1978, my Dad’s father went home to be with God. What a way to bring in a new year, huh?
As the years went by, I noticed different things that were bad for the Sanders/Penson families. These things may not have happened had my grandparents been there. It is hard to tell sometimes if they would have been better or not, but I am sure that God knows best.
Right before my grandparents died, our family was introduced to the Hamilton Family and the Golden Gate Church of God in Christ. Our lives changed for the better when it came to joining this wonderfully inspirational church. There, (Golden Gate C.O.G.I.C.)We remained members until the present day.
Down through the years, my brother Tim had become a bit rebellious, but as we remained prayerful and dedicated to God, he grew up and out of being a problem child.

My brother, sister, and I fought as most children do growing up, but we stood together against everyone else. When my brother and sister got a wiping, they would always call on, Jesus and get saved. Myself, I knew that the salvation should have come before the trial. So, the pain rained down on us. Sometimes, I felt like I was getting a wiping for no cause, but overall, I thank and love my Father and Mother for the disciplinary actions that they took with us. It paid off more than I could ever imagine.
As the years rolled by and I became athletic, I obtained a serious passion for basketball, writing songs, and reading poetry. One day, as a young boy (12 years old), I read some poetry that made me think. I don’t remember the title, but it was how I felt about my grandmother. Two days later, as I woke up to a speech from the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., I decided to try my hand at writing poetry. Although I was not that good at rhyming, I think my first poem was pretty good. I later cried, because my grandmother wasn’t there to share the event with me, so I eventually threw the poem away.
I have always figured when I would be ready to write poetry. It (poetry) comes easy for me when things get bad and up until this day, it remains the same. I learned that I have to write my pleasant poems at the times of trials as well. As you go on, and you read my book, you will read a poem called, “My Poetry Days”. That poem alone will explain a lot about me and when I write poetry.

Down through the years, as my brother got worse in attitude, my Dad being an over the road truck driver, and as I obtained more wisdom, I grew closer and more fond of my mother. My Mother always seemed to know the right words to get me back to the squared circle.
In the ninth grade, I chose to quit school, because my popularity had fallen to the ground (died). Well, after getting my back side beat twice by my Mom and once by my Dad, my Mother saw where I was coming from. She (My Mother) cried for a while, but the next day, she came and talked to me as a friend. My mother told me, “Son, you will have to have an education and need your High School Diploma to make it in the future”. “Your Dad and I will die one day and if you are not educated enough, then we failed you as much as you failed yourself”. After the talk with my mother, I went back to school and got my education and earned a Diploma.
In 1990, I joined the military, which I think was one of my greatest accomplishments besides getting my High School Diploma. I served in the Army Reserves and National Guard for 11 years. At the end of the 11 years of service, I earned an Honorable Discharge.
In January of 1994, I married a woman that I thought to be the world’s most beautiful woman, besides my mother of course. She is a young lady that gave me my first born child, T’keyah M. Sanders. When we went our separate ways, I had two other children who I love just as much as T’keyah. Their names are, ShaKera Sanders and Jordan M. Finley.
Throughout all of these events, I written poetry and made a collection of over 700 poems written by me personally. I became familiar with the International Library of Poetry in 1994 when one of my wife’s older friends died. I wrote a poem called, “When I Find the Light”. I have been writing to them and having a great deal of fun doing it, because of that moment. Over the years, I have received several Editors’ choice awards, but never anything of more value until 2006. I was nominated for Poet of the Year for 2006, Ambassador of Poetry for 2006, Editor’s Choice for 2006, and Ambassador of Poetry for 2007 and 3 beautiful trophies.
The most important thing that I must share with you is, while I was growing up, I saw the character that I wanted to be when I saw my Father and Mother together. I always saw the strength that my Dad had and my Mom was filled with wisdom and Revelation. By the strengths that my Dad always displayed and the wisdom that my Mom distributed, I present this book of poetry titled, “I Got to Pay my Child Support” to each and everyone that reads this book.
Thank you all very much for your love, support, and for taking this time to read my message. I hope you enjoy the book. If you are interested in writing me a personal note, you may e-mail it to me at: tyronesandersbegan@yahoo.com . God bless you all and thank you again for your love and your support.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
