Promises

I feared
That your vows
To love no one
But me
Would someday falter
Like the inevitable
Transience of time

When your last kiss
Would ever froze upon my lips
Your caress would
Remain a memory
Of a dead leaf on the ground

You promised
Nay, it wouldn't happen
For the day after tomorrow
Your vows will be renewed

Forever hasn't come
Yet your vows
Withered like a rose

Plucked from yesterday

Your promises
Remained to be promises
Shattered and torn apar

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
